De Gea agrees terms on record-breaking six-year contract

David de Gea is to end speculation regarding his future at Manchester United by signing a bumper new six-year deal at the club, The Telegraph reports.

The Spaniard has been subject of interest of some of the top teams in Europe having failed to agree terms on a new contract at Old Trafford to this point, with his current deal set to expire next year.

However, there has reportedly been a breakthrough in talks to extend that contract for a further five years - until 2025 - making De Gea the highest paid goalkeeper in the world at a suggested £375k per week.

The 28-year-old endured a difficult season last time out, making a number of high profile errors particularly in the second half of the campaign, with talks over his future possibly acting as a distraction.

The Spain international’s WhoScored.com rating of 6.52 was his worst in eight Premier League seasons with the Red Devils, shipping almost twice as many goals (54) as the 2017/18 campaign (28).
