England manager ready to call up Championship goalkeeper
Gareth Southgate is poised to hand Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn a shock first senior England call-up on Thursday, claims The Daily Mirror.
The England manager will announce his squad on Thursday for upcoming friendlies against Holland and Italy and there are set to be plenty of surprises.
As this is the last chance many of England’s fringe players will have to impress Southgate before the 2018 World Cup, the Three Lions boss wants to see assess all his options before finalising his squad.
Southgate has still not settled on who his No.1 goalkeeper will be in Russia with question marks over all of his current options.
Gunn, who is on loan at Norwich from Manchester City, was drafted into the England squad in November as cover for Jack Butland but now he is set to be picked on merit this time around.
Of goalkeepers that have made at least 20 appearances in the Championship this season, only two have a better save success rate than Gunn (74%).
