PSG hoping to trump Marseille in pursuit of West Ham man

Paris Saint Germain will look to beat Marseille in the race to sign West Ham attacker Dimitri Payet, reports the Daily Express.

Payet has made no secret of his desire to leave West Ham this month, even threatening to injure himself to avoid playing for the Hammers.

A return to Marseille, who he left for Slaven Bilic’s side 18 months ago, has been mooted, though both teams have been way short in their valuation of the player.

PSG have since entered the race to secure the France international’s services this month, with West Ham holding out for offers of around £35m for Payet.

Marseille are believed to be preparing a third offer of £25m to sign the 29-year-old, who has made more key passes (74) than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

PSG though have the financial power to lure Payet to the French capital and will look to trump their rivals for the Frenchman’s signature.

Unai Emery’s side are well-stocked in the final third following the arrival of Julian Draxler, but the PSG manager has earmarked Payet as a possible replacement for Javier Pastore, who has been linked with a move away from the French champions.
