Manchester United star misses Juventus clash and doubt for Manchester derby

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed Romelu Lukaku will miss Wednesday’s Champions League encounter with Juventus and is a doubt for Sunday’s Manchester derby.

Lukaku suffered a muscle injury in training on the eve of last weekend’s 2-1 win away to Bournemouth and has not managed to recover in time for their must-win clash with Juventus in Europe.

The Belgium international has endured a miserable run of form of late and Mourinho has conceded he is unsure whether he will be available to face Manchester City at the weekend.

“He’s injured for tomorrow, I’m not sure for Sunday,” BBC Sport quote Mourinho as saying in Tueday’s pre-match press conference.

Mourinho has previously lamented a lack of options in order to give Lukaku a rest and the United manager will be forced to pick between Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford against Juventus.

However, Lukaku has dipped to such a low level that his absence may actually benefit United in Turin. The 26-year-old has failed to score or assist in his last nine appearances for United in all competitions.
