Manchester United have pulled out of a deal to sign Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic over money, claims The Daily Mail.
United are on the brink of selling Romelu Lukaku to Serie A outfit Inter in a deal worth as much as €80m and have less than four hours to find a replacement before the window for English clubs closes.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been locked in talks with Juventus about a potential deal for Mandzukic, who is free to leave the Serie A champions for the right price.
However, Juventus are demanding £14m for the towering forward and the 33-year-old is asking for £150,000-a-week wages to move to Old Trafford.
United have already made it clear they will not pay over-inflated fees where possible and they have pulled the plug on their interest in Mandzukic as a result.
The Red Devils haven’t given up hope of signing a replacement for Lukaku but Solskjaer is equally happy to accelerate 17-year-old Mason Greenwood’s introduction to the first-team set up.
Mandzukic has spent the last four years at Juventus but is deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Maurizio Sarri.
He has started 102 of a possible 152 league matches in that period and only hit double figures for goals on one occasion, his maiden campaign for the club (10 goals).
