Burnley’s £12m bid for Gray replacement rejected

Leeds United have rejected Burnley’s £12m bid for Chris Wood as the Premier League giants look to replace Andre Gray, claims The Daily Mirror.

The Clarets are short in attack after selling Andre Gray to Premier League rivals Watford in a deal worth £18.5m earlier this week, but Sean Dyche will have that money available to sign a replacement.

Burnley have earmarked Wood as their top transfer target but have failed with their opening bid, as Leeds are demanding the same fee Middlesbrough paid Nottingham Forest for Britt Assombalonga.

The 24-year-old completed a £15m move to Middlesbrough earlier this summer and Leeds believe they are entitled to the same amount, although it remains to be seen whether Burnley are willing to pay that much for the New Zealand international.

In the last two Championship campaigns (excluding playoffs), Wood has scored at least five more goals than any other player (28).
