Which team made the spine of the Ligue 1 Team of the Week?

There hasn’t been much to shout about for Lyon fans this season. Any ambitions they had for the new campaign appeared to go out the window when Nabil Fekir was ruled out for six months with a serious knee injury.

They’ve struggled to recover ever since. However, they did manage to record their fifth win of the season in all competitions (15 games) when they beat Toulouse 3-0 on Friday. In doing so, they also scored more than one goal for just the second time since Fekir’s injury at the end of August.

Lyon’s win was enough to earn them three players in the Ligue 1 Team of the Week as they formed the spine from defence to attack. Samuel Umtiti took in place at the heart of the defence following a performance that included three tackles, four interceptions, five clearances (more than any Lyon player) and one aerial duel won, as he garnered a WhoScored rating of 8.30.

Which team made the spine of the Ligue 1 Team of the Week?

In front of him, is Mathieu Valbuena, whose WhoScored rating of 9.04 could only be bettered by Angel di Maria (9.62). The pint-sized creative midfielder created thee goalscoring opportunities, registered one assist, scored his first goal for Lyon and tested the goalkeeper more times than any other player (3) on display at the Stade de Gerland.

Finally, Claudio Beauvue partners Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front. The Lyon striker registered two assists, had the joint-most shots (4) and created two more goalscoring chances than the whole Toulouse team combined.
