Paris Saint-Germain's shock move for MLS star Acosta collapses

Paris Saint-Germain's shock deadline day deal for DC United star Luciano Acosta has collapsed, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Acosta emerged as a shock target for the French giants after being indentified as the ideal stand-in replacement for Neymar.

PSG failed with a surprise move to loan Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil for the remainder of the season before turning their attention to the DC United star.

With Neymar out for 10 weeks, Thomas Tuchel wanted cover in forward areas but PSG were not able to agree a fee with DC United.

The MLS franchise were holding out for $13m (£9.9m) but PSG were not willing to go above their offer of $11.5m (£8.8m).

It was reported that Acosta had flown into Europe ahead of deadline day in order to get a deal over the line but the 24-year-old will now return to America.

The 24-year-old has been at DC United since 2016 and the MLS outfit would have banked a club record fee had he completed a move to PSG.

Acosta was one of six players to finish with double figures for goals (10) and assists (15) in MLS last season and benefited hugely from Wayne Rooney’s arrival at DC United.

In fact, Acosta registered at least two more assists than any other player in MLS last term (including playoffs).
