Liverpool striker Christian Benteke is set to undergo an MRI scan on the hamstring injury he sustained during their 1-1 draw with Norwich City on Sunday.
Benteke, 24, will sit out of Liverpool’s Capital One Cup clash with Carlisle on Wednesday and is a serious doubt for his reunion with Aston Villa at the weekend.
The Belgium international spent three years at Villa Park before leaving for Liverpool over the summer in a £32.5m move.
“Christian is going to have an MRI scan today,” The Daily Express quotes Liverpool coach Gary McAllister as saying. “He’s not going to be ready for tomorrow.”
Benteke’s start to the season has divided opinion, but no player has won more aerial duels in the Premier League than the Liverpool striker thus far (8.5).
