Napoli complete loan deal for Arsenal outcast

Arsenal have confirmed David Ospina has joined Napoli on a season-long loan deal with an option to make the switch permanent.

Napoli have been on the market for a new No.1 goalkeeper all summer after Pepe Reina left the club to join Serie A rivals AC Milan.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have already signed Orestis Karnezis and Alex Meret on loan from Udinese but have bolstered their goalkeeping ranks with the arrival of Ospina.

The Colombia international has spent the last four years at Arsenal but has not been considered first choice during that period, never making more than 18 league appearances in a single-campaign.

Arsenal signed Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer to make Ospina third-choice at the club, all but confirming he has no future under new manager Unai Emery.

The 29-year-old kept 12 clean sheets in 29 league appearances for Arsenal, garnering a WhoScored rating of 6.98 in the process.
