Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is willing to sell John Stones this summer after just two seasons at the club, claims The Sun.
Stones has intriguing fallen out of favour at City since the turn of the year and Aymeric Laporte’s club-record arrival in January has only forced him further down the pecking order.
The England international has surprisingly made fewer Premier League starts than Vincent Kompany this season and now Guardiola is willing to sell the 23-year-old this summer.
City made Stones the second most expensive defender in history when they shelled out £47.5m to prise him away from Everton in 2016 but he has so far failed to reach his potential.
Stones made a really impressive start to the season but has only started two of City’s last 15 matches in all competitions and is a fitness doubt for the 2018 World Cup.
City have a far superior record in the Premier League since the start of last season without Stones in the starting XI (80%) compared to when he has featured from the off (64.9%).
His decline this season has been bizarre. Was immense at the start of the season and now 4th choice CB. Mental if he leaves. Guardiola was the manager that was supposed to iron out his mistakes!
