Underfire goalkeeper finishes 2015 with most clean sheets

There has been a lot written about Simon Mignolet, most of which has been negative. The Belgian shot-stopper isn’t good enough to be the goalkeeper for Liverpool according to sum, while others have lamented his ability to come and collect crosses.

Jurgen Klopp has repeatedly insisted he isn’t looking to sign a new goalkeeper in January, nor in the summer, and Liverpool are currently in talks to extend Mignolet’s stay, yet headlines are still written linking the club to almost every goalkeeper on the continent.

However, Wednesday night’s 1-0 victory over Sunderland ensured that the Liverpool No.1 would finish the calendar year in a league of his own, having kept at least one more clean sheet than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League (16).

In fact, if you widen the parameters to include Europe’s top five leagues, then Mignolet has also kept more clean sheets than the likes of Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon (14).
