Chelsea’s move for Dzeko collapses

Chelsea will not sign Roma striker Edin Dzeko before Wednesday’s transfer deadline as talks have collapsed, reports The Independent.

Antonio Conte’s side have been locked in talks with Roma for the last week in a bid to prise Dzeko back to the Premier League and ease the goalscoring burden on Alvaro Morata.

Chelsea have struggled to agree a fee with Roma and also compromise on terms with Dzeko, which has led to a complete breakdown in negotiations for his transfer.

The defending Premier League champions have been linked with a variety of strikers this month but now appear set to miss out on all their targets, which should see Michy Batshuayi remain at Stamford Bridge.

Batshuayi has struggled to make any impression on Conte since joining from Marseille in a deal worth more than £30m in 2016, despite being a regular scorer when called upon.

The 24-year-old netted twice in a 3-0 win over Newcastle in the FA Cup on Sunday. In fact, the Belgium international is the only Chelsea player to have scored in all four competitions this season.
