Sevilla appoint Sampaoli replacement

Sevilla have announced they will appoint Eduardo Berizzo as Jorge Sampaoli’s replacement on a two-year deal.

The La Liga side have been forced into looking for a new head coach after Sampaoli opted to return to international management and become Argentina boss after just one season at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.

Berizzo stepped down as Celta Vigo manager at the end of last season after three successful years in charge of the club and navigating Sevilla through their Champions League qualifier will be his first task.

The 47-year-old led Celta to the Europa League semi-finals last season where they were narrowly beaten by eventual winners Manchester United and Sevilla, who have a rich recent history in European competition, will hope the Argentine can continue their success on the continental scene.

In his three years in charge of Celta, Berizzo finished with a win rate of 41.2% but endured his worst league campaign last season after sacrificing La Liga for the Europa League.
