Liverpool are at a stand off with Emre Can in contract talks as the midfielder wants a release clause to pledge his long-term future to the club, reports The Daily Mail.
Can will be free to speak with foreign clubs about a pre-contractual agreement in January when he will only have six months remaining on his existing deal.
Jurgen Klopp has already revealed his frustrations about the club allowing the Germany international to enter this stage of his contract, but stalled negotiations for a new deal have nothing to do with money.
The 23-year-old, who was heavily linked with a move to Juventus in the summer, is demanding a release clause in order to pen a new deal and Liverpool have so far refused his wish.
Liverpool also denied Philippe Coutinho the same demand when he extended his stay back in January and that proved an astute decision after they fended off interest from Barcelona during the summer.
Juventus are reportedly weighing up a cut-price deal for the Germany international in January but Klopp would rather let Can leave for nothing rather than just to receive a transfer fee.
Since the start of last season, only Christian Benteke (88) has committed more fouls in the Premier League than Can (74).
