Real Madrid consider ex-PSG striker Cavani

Real Madrid are weighing up a surprise move for former Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, claims ESPN.

Cavani is a free agent after his PSG contract expired in July and the Uruguay international has been heavily linked with a number of top clubs around Europe.

Benfica held extensive talks with Cavani earlier in the summer only to pull the plug over the striker's huge wage demands.

The 33-year-old has also held talks with Juventus about a return to Italy but the Serie A champions have now elected to re-sign Alvaro Morata on loan.

Madrid were not initially looking to bolster their offensive options but are now mulling a move for the experienced striker.

The Spanish giants have made in the region of €100m in player sales this season and shifted significant room on their wage bill with Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez now elsewhere.

As Eden Hazard continues to struggle with his fitness, coupled with Luka Jovic being completely out of favour, Zinedine Zidane is weighing up help for Karim Benzema.

Cavani was limited to just seven starts and seven substitute appearances at PSG last season after dropping way down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel.

The veteran striker departed PSG after seven years at the club where he became the club's record goalscorer.
