Patrice Evra signs West Ham deal

Patrice Evra has edged closer to making his Premier League return after signing a contract with West Ham, reports RMC Sport.

The 36-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with Marseille was terminated back in November following an altercation with a home supporter earlier that month.

Evra was subsequently banned from all European club competition for the remainder of the season but the former France international can play in domestic leagues, such as the Premier League.

Everton expressed an interest in signing the former United fan favourite but Evra made it clear he would prefer to move to London and now West Ham are set to make an official announcement on his arrival.

Evra spent eight years at United before leaving to join Juventus in 2014 after working under David Moyes for one season at Old Trafford.

West Ham have been very porous in defence, conceding the second most goals in the Premier League this season (46), while only Crystal Palace (36) have committed more errors that have led to an opposition goal than the Hammers (34) in the last four league campaigns.
