Liverpool set to trump rivals for England international

Liverpool are set to beat Everton in the race to sign highly-rated Burnley defender Micheal Keane according to the Daily Mirror.

Keane is expected to depart Turf Moor this summer, with the England international coming into the final year of his contract for the Clarets.

Everton were believed to be in pole position to secure the services of the 24-year-old, yet they look to have been leapfrogged by Liverpool.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his backline in the summer and with the Merseyside outfit set to miss out on Chelsea target Virgil van Dijk, have turned their attention to Keane.

Burnley won’t allow Keane to leave on the cheap, however, with the Clarets demanding upwards of £25m if they are to sell their prized defender at the end of the season.

Keane, though, is waiting to see whether Liverpool secure a spot in the Champions League before finalising a move to Anfield, though a four-year deal has been agreed in principle.

His commendable form for Burnley has seen Keane earn a WhoScored rating of 7.13 this season, win an average of 4.3 aerial duels won per game the second best return of all defenders in the Premier League.
