Napoli consider on-loan Arsenal goalkeeper as Reina replacement
Napoli are pondering a move for on-loan Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as a potential replacement for Jose Reina, according to Il Mattino.
Reina is the subject of serious interest from Premier League returnees Newcastle United, with the Spaniard enjoying a good working relationship with compatriot and Magpies boss Rafa Benitez during their time together at Liverpool.
The 34-year-old is contracted to Napoli until next summer, with the Partenopei offering Reina a fresh one-year deal to prolong his stay in Naples.
However, the goalkeeper is holding out for a three-year contract at the Stadio San Paolo, which could see Napoli cash in on Reina rather than lose him on a free next summer.
They have set their sights on Szczesny as a potential new number one, with the Poland international impressing during his two-year spell with Serie A rivals Roma.
The Rome giants are keen to turn his loan move permanent, while Juventus have also courted the 27-year-old, who kept more clean sheets (14) than any other goalkeeper in Serie A last season.
Arsenal are willing to bring Szczesny back into the first-team fold following the culmination of his spell at Roma, but are aware of serious interest in the Pole from Italy.
