LA Galaxy make record-breaking move for Manchester United striker

Manchester United’s hopes of keeping Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a second year have been made more complicated by the fact the veteran striker has an offer on the table from LA Galaxy to become the highest paid player in Major League Soccer history, reports Sports Illustrated.

Ibrahimovic, 35, has been a revelation for United since joining on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer but his current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and his long-term future remains unclear.

United manager Jose Mourinho is desperate to keep the former Sweden international at Old Trafford for at least another season and there is a clause in his existing deal that would entitle him to further 12 months at the club, but Ibrahimovic is yet to make a decision.

Ibrahimovic has performed above and beyond his advancing years this season and proved numerous people wrong with his goals and performance in the EFL Cup final at the end of last month.

Mourinho has even joked that United fans should camp outside his house in order to convince Ibrahimovic to stay, but the waters have now been muddied further by an offer from LA Galaxy.

The MLS giants were interested in signing Ibrahimovic last summer before Mourinho intervened and reunited with the iconic Swede at Old Trafford and are now willing to make him the highest paid player in the league’s history.

Only three players have scored more of their team’s goals in the Premier League this season than Ibrahimovic (38.5%).
