Manchester United make breakthrough in Rashford contract talks

Marcus Rashford is ready to pledge his long-term future to Manchester United, reports The Times.

The England international has 12 months left to run on his current United deal, though the Red Devils have an option for another season.

United are desperate to secure Rashford’s long-term future and have been locked in contract talks with his representatives for the last year.

Rashford’s camp have been holding out for stunning £350,000-a-week wages and have taken advantage of United’s delicate situation.

With the likes of David de Gea, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba heavily linked with summer moves away; losing Rashford is simply not an option for United.

Rashford, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Barcelona, wants to stay at United and spearhead their resurgence under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

While the futures of the aforementioned trio remain uncertain, United have at least made a breakthrough in contract talks with Rashford.

Rashford reached double figures in a league campaign for the first time last season (10) but he will have to make vast improvements next term to justify a bumper new deal.
