Manchester United and Liverpool monitoring Barcelona target

Manchester United and Liverpool are keeping tabs on Saul Niguez's future at Atletico Madrid, claims AS.

Atletico are keen to offload Saul this summer in order to reduce their wage bill and clear the path to sign a new forward.

Saul looked set to join Barcelona with former Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann moving in the opposite direction but those talks have reportedly cooled.

Atletico are operating at the top end of their salary cap after signing Rodrigo de Paul from Udinese and have decided to cash in on Saul to fund further signings.

Liverpool are keen on the Spain international after losing Gini Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer, while United are also admirers of Saul.

United's preference is to sign Rennes' Eduardo Camavinga but fear the youngster has his heart set on a move to Spain either this summer or next.

Saul is the only player to have been booked at least 10 times in each of the last three seasons in Europe's top 5 leagues.
