Ex-Manchester United and Barcelona shot-stopper Victor Valdes insists he has no problem with Louis van Gaal despite an explosive ending to his career at Old Trafford.
Valdes was a free agent and had only just returned from a long-term knee injury when Van Gaal brought him to United in January last year.
However, the former Spain international would only make two appearances in just over a year at Old Trafford before making the move to Belgium outfit Standard Liege late last month.
Despite spending the final six months of his time at United isolated from the first-team after falling out with Van Gaal, Valdes insists he has no problems with the Dutchman.
“I don’t have a problem with Van Gaal,” Valdes told Marca. “He discovered me when I was 20 and was the only coach to say to me at the time: ‘I want you in the first-team’."
“After my cruciate ligament injury in my knee, he was the first person to approach me about joining United. I have to be grateful to him and will never forget that. He gave me my first game after my injury.”
Valdes made his first competitive appearance in more than seven months when he made his debut for Liege at the end of last month.
