Real Madrid have confirmed Keylor Navas will undergo surgery to correct a long standing left Achilles tendon problem.
Navas, 29, who was ruled out of the Copa America with Costa Rica this summer, will undergo the knife in Madrid on June 9 after he had tests on Monday in Amsterdam.
The Madrid ace has suffered with Achilles problems since the World Cup in 2014 but aggravated the knock against Valencia at the start of last month.
“After the tests carried out today on Keylor Navas in Amsterdam, the doctor Niek van Dijk, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Sanitas medical services, has taken the decision to carry out a minimally invasive endoscopy on the left heel,” a statement read on Madrid's official website.
“The operation will take place on June 9 in Madrid, performed by doctors Van Dijk, Pedro Luis Ripoll and Mariano de Prado, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Sanitas medical services.”
Navas, who didn’t appear to have a future at Madrid last summer, finished last season in the European Team of the Season after an outstanding campaign between the sticks (7.12 rating).
