Juventus have confirmed they will be without Andrea Barzagli for two months with a dislocated shoulder.
Barzagli, 35, was stretchered off after just five minutes of Juventus’ 2-1 win over Chievo after suffering a shoulder injury on Sunday.
Juventus have now confirmed subsequent tests have shown the veteran defender has now dislocated his left shoulder and will be sidelined for an approximate period of two months.
“Andrea Barzagli today checked into J Medical for instrumental tests and orthopaedic consultancy by Dr. Ravera regarding the consequences of the dislocation of his left shoulder, sustained in the Serie A match in Verona,” read a statement on Juventus’ website.
“The player will have to wear a protective brace for around four weeks. The current prognosis for his return is approximately two months.”
Giampiero Ventura has already removed Barzagli from his Italy squad for upcoming matches against Liechtenstein and Germany.
Barzagli, who is one part of Juventus formidable ‘BBC’ back three, has featured in 10 of Juventus’ 12 league matches but is now expected to miss the rest of 2016.
This will mean Max Allegri will be without Barzagli for their two remaining Champions League group stage matches, as well as six league games, which include fixtures against Roma and AC Milan.
Of Juventus players to have featured in at least two Champions League matches this season, only Leonardo Bonucci (83) averages more passes per game than Barzagli (77.8).
