Laporte content with excessive release clause

Athletic Club defender Aymeric Laporte does not feel his €50m (£38m) release clause will stop him getting a big move in the future.

The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the most exciting central defenders on the continent and has previously been linked with a move to Barcelona and Manchester United.

Laporte extended his stay at the San Mames to 2019 last summer and is ‘delighted’ the club value him so highly.

“The club and I are delighted with my price,” Laporte told Onda Vasca.

“My contract with Athletic has changed in line with my growth. They look a chance on me and I’ve repaid them.

“We’ve since reached a figure [€50m] that we felt was very good and both parties are happy. I’ve been saying for the past two years that I’m focused on Athletic and not thinking about anything else.”

Laporte has already scored more league goals in 17 appearances this season than he has managed in his three previous senior years combined (3). Additionally, no defender has scored more goals than Laporte in La Liga this season.
