Marseille close in on Argentina’s top rated player

Argentine ace Marcos Acuna is open to joining Marseille during the January transfer window after positive talks with the Ligue 1 outfit, claims Get French Football.

Acuna has been in sublime form for Racing Club in the Argentine Primera Division this season and his performances in his homeland have not gone unnoticed by those in Europe.

The 25-year-old made his debut for the Argentina national team in November last year following his fine campaign with Racing Club, but was only given five minutes in a 3-0 win over Colombia.

It is now being reported that Marseille have held positive talks with Acuna over the last month with the attacking midfielder willing to join the Ligue 1 outfit this month.

However, the one stumbling block is reportedly manager Rudi Garcia, who isn’t convinced about the player, despite the fact the club’s sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta, wants to sign him.

A deal is also made complicated by the fact Racing Club only part own Acuna, with the rest of the player’s transfer rights still controlled by his former club Ferro Carril Oeste.

Acuna is currrently the highest rated player in Argentina's top-flight this season (7.75) after playing a direct hand in nine goals in 12 appearances (five goals, four assists). He has also been fouled more times per game than any other player (3.8).
