Wolves set to smash transfer record with arrival of Championship ace

Wolves are poised to break their transfer record to land Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore in an £18m deal, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Traore is set for a second stint in the Premier League after failing the most of his opportunity with Aston Villa the first time.

The former Barcelona academy graduate was a revelation in the Championship last term and Wolves want the powerful winger to bolster their offensive options. 

Middlesbrough failed to gain promotion to the Premier League and now look set to lose Traore before Thursday’s deadline, due to his £18m release clause.

Wolves had already had a £12m bid rejected for the 22-year-old and will be forced to match his buy-out clause, with a deal expected to be finalised next week.

Traore’s move to Wolves appeared in serious doubt after partially dislocating his shoulder last week but the Spaniard has since returned to training.

Wolves broke their transfer record to sign Ruben Neves 12 months ago in a £15m deal but will break that with Traore’s arrival.

Traore finished last season as the highest WhoScored rated player in the Championship (7.79) after playing a direct hand in 15 goals (five goals, 10 assists) in 34 league games.

Not only that, but the Spain Under-21 international completed the most dribbles in the division (243), more than the second and third ranked players combined.
