League One side Swindon Town have announced they have appointed Tim Sherwood as director of football.
Sherwood, 47, has been out of work since being sacked by Aston Villa in October 2015 but was expected to take the vacant Queens Park Rangers job.
QPR are looking for a new manager after sacking Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink last weekend, but are set to return to Ian Holloway after Sherwood opted to take up a job with the Robbins.
“I like this club. I’ve got a soft spot for it,” Sherwood said upon his unveiling. “This is a good opportunity for me to get back onto the training field.
“I started this morning. I’ll be in the dressing room, I’ll be talking to the boys and giving them some words of wisdom.”

Swindon have endured a difficult start to the season and are currently in the bottom four on goal difference in League One.
They have only managed four wins in their opening 16 matches, while only two teams have scored fewer goals in England’s third-tier this season (Swindon – 16 goals scored).
