Brazilian veteran joins Schalke

Schalke have announced they will sign Wolfsburg defender Naldo on a free transfer in the summer.

Naldo, 33, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga rivals, with an option to a further year, when his contract with Wolfsburg expires at the end of June.

The Brazilian defender has been with Wolfsburg since joining from Werder Bremen in 2012 and has lauded his time at the club, but admits the project at Schalke caught his eye.

“I had a fantastic time at Wolfsburg with great success. I will always have the club and the city in my heart,” Naldo told the Schalke website.

“Everyone at VfL knows just how much this club means to me. But in our talks [Schalke sporting executive] Christian Heidel caught my imagination so that I now have a great hunger for this challenge to be successful with this really good team at Schalke.”

Since August 2011, Naldo has scored at least five more goals than any other central defender in the Bundesliga (17).
