Besiktas pushing for Juventus defender

Besiktas have stepped up their interest in Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner as they continue to look for a new right-back, reports beIN Sports, via Football Italia.

The Turkish champions need to sign a new defender after selling Andreas Beck back to Germany earlier in the summer and are now targeting a move for Lichtsteiner.

The 33-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal with Juventus and has been left out of their 25-man squad for the Champions League group stages for the second season in a row.

However, the Switzerland international was also left out of their European squad 12 months ago before working his way back into contention under Max Allegri during the second half of last season.

Nevertheless, Juventus are well equipped without the experienced defender having signed Mattia De Sciglio and Benedikt Howedes over the summer.

Turkish sides still have until Friday until the transfer window closes and reports suggest the next 48 hours will be a make or break period for Besiktas in their attempts to sign Lichtsteiner.

Since August 2015, Juventus have won a greater proportion of their league matches with Lichtsteiner in the starting XI (80.4%) compared to when he has not been included from the off (71.9%).
