Chelsea enter the race for Borussia Dortmund target

Chelsea have emerged as surprise suitors for Gladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud but face competition from European rivals Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, reports The Guardian.

Dahoud, 21, has entered the final 18 months of existing deal with Gladbach and has been regularly linked with a move away from the Bundesliga outfit in recent years after establishing himself as one of the most promising midfielders in Germany.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has previously expressed an interest in the Germany Under-21 international but it is Antonio Conte’s side that have emerged as the leading side from the Premier League chasing the central midfielder’s signature.

Reports had emerged on Friday suggesting Dortmund had agreed a €10m (£8.6m) deal in principle with their Bundesliga rivals for his signature but they are not believed to be accurate, while Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring his situation.

Of players aged 21 and under only two have won possession in the midfield third more times in the Bundesliga since the start of last season than Dahoud (131).
