Brentford have announced injured star Alan Judge has signed a new two-year deal keeping him at the club until 2019.
The 28-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the current campaign but Brentford have moved to secure the services of one of their best players despite the fact he has been injured all season.
Judge hasn’t featured competitively since breaking his leg in a 3-1 defeat to Ipswich back in October and had been linked with a move to Championship giants Newcastle.
“I am really pleased that Alan ahs committed his immediate future to us,” head coach Dean Smith told the club’s official website. “He has been an integral member of the squad since he joined and has played a massive part in the recent success of the football club.
“He is close to a full recovery from the terrible injury he suffered and we will certainly reap the benefits when he returns to the standards he was setting in the Championship priory to the injury, which earned him his full international cap and plaudits from managers and peers from within the Championship.
"It is a great boost to the staff, the squad and supporters that his future remains at Brentford."
Despite not being able to finish last season, only Hull defender Curtis Davies finished the campaign with a WhoScored rating as high as Judge in the Championship (7.46), while no player has registered more assists in the last three Championship campaigns than the Ireland international despite playing no part so far this seaso (24).
