Real Madrid president provides update on goalkeeper situation
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has hinted the club will not look to sign a new goalkeeper this summer after revealing current first choice Keylor Navas can stay for many more years.
Navas’ position at Madrid has been uncertain for the last three years and earlier this season it finally looked like he would be forced to find a new club at the end of the current campaign.
Premier League duo David de Gea and Thibaut Courtois have both been heavily linked with a move to Madrid, while Athletic Club starlet Kepa was also close to joining Zinedine Zidane’s side in January.
However, Kepa opted to sign a new deal with Athletic and De Gea and Courtois look set to renew with Manchester United and Chelsea, respectively.
Roma’s Alisson has also been mooted as a potential target for Madrid, but Perez has now suggested they already have their No.1 goalkeeper for next season.
“We are proud to have you [Keylor Navas] as our goalkeeper, whatever some people say,” Perez said at a fans’ event.
“Work hard, for sure, you will be with us for many more years.”
Of goalkeepers that have made at least 10 La Liga appearances this season, only four have a better success rate than the Costa Rice international (74.1%).
