Salzburg star Takumi Minamino has a release clause of just £7.5m and Liverpool are planning a January raid, claims The Times.
Minamino's stock has soared this season following Salzburg's impressive displays in the Champions League.
Salzburg are bracing themselves for January bids for a number of players in January, including teen sensation Erling Haaland and forward Hwang Hee-chan.
Jurgen Klopp's interest in Minamino actually dates back prior to this season but Liverpool are ready to step up their pursuit following his eye-catching performances in Europe.
Naby Keita and Sadio Mane both had spells at Salzburg earlier in their career and Klopp believes Minamino can take a similar step in his career.
The Japan international was mostly used in an attacking midfield position in the Champions League group stage but can also play deeper and out wide.
Minamino started all six Champions League group games for Salzburg and impressively played a direct hand in five goals in that time (two goals, three assists).
Furthermore, only two players (both 4) registered more assists than Minamino (3) in the Champions League group stages.
Liverpool will not be the only team interested in Minamino but the reigning European champions will surely be right at the front of the queue for the midfielder.
