Bournemouth bid for Chelsea goalkeeper rejected

Chelsea have turned down Bournemouth’s attempt to sign Asmir Begovic but are not opposed to letting their reserve goalkeeper leave Stamford Bridge this month, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Begovic has spent the last two years with Chelsea after joining from Stoke in 2015 but has spent the duration of his stint at Stamford Bridge as Thibaut Courtois’ understudy.

The Bosnia international has only been afforded game time when Courtois was unavailable for selection or in the lesser cup competitions and now Bournemouth have their eye on prizing the 29-year-old away from the current Premier League leaders.

Bournemouth’s bid for Begovic was reportedly in the region of £10m and Chelsea have not shut the door on his potential exit this season, even though Antonio Conte would rather he stayed for the remainder of the campaign.

However, given Chelsea are out of the League Cup, Begovic’s only opportunities to play are likely limited to the duration of their stint in the FA Cup and a move away to Bournemouth, where he would become their No.1 goalkeeper, may appeal to the former Stoke goalkeeper.

Begovic has only made four appearances this season and hasn’t featured in the Premier League since May (vs Liverpool).
