Barcelona monitoring United creator

Barcelona are interested in the prospect of signing Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata in the summer, according to The Daily Mail.

Mata, 27, joined United in January 2014 from rivals Chelsea as their then-club-record transfer record (£37.1m) but he is still yet to truly settle at Old Trafford.

Reports suggesting Barcelona could make a shock move for the Spain international on deadline day are wide of the mark, but there have been talks between the European Champions and Mata’s camp regarding a possible switch in the summer.

Mata is still happy at United and talks haven’t progressed beyond initial discussions, but with two years left on his current deal this summer could prove pivotal to how the rest of his career pans out.

Since joining United, Mata has completed at least four more accurate through balls than any other teammate in the league (15).
