Manchester United make breakthrough in talks to sign Jadon Sancho

Manchester United are making steady progress in their attempts to sign Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho after making a breakthrough in talks over the last 24 hours, reports The Indepedent.

Negotiations between United and Sancho's representatives had reached impasse at the end of last month over agent fees and wages but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side believe they have now reached an agreement.

Both United and Dortmund agreed nearly a month ago to carry out talks in private after growing frustrated with how discussions were carried out at the start of the summer, with the Premier League outfit particularly angry at Dortmund leaking information to the press.

United are now on the right track to land Sancho after agreeing terms with his camp but still need to agree a fee with Dortmund, who have ruled out any COVID-19 discounts and want no less than €120m.

The Red Devils remain adamant Dortmund are living in fantasy world with their valuation of the 20-year-old and will still move on to alternative targets if talks collapse over Sancho's price once again.

United, who have only signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax this summer, are willing to make a serious outlay to bring Sancho to Old Trafford but are keen to structure the deal in instalments rather than the huge initial payment that Dortmund want.

Sancho has developed into one of the best young players in Europe since leaving Manchester City to join Dortmund in 2017 but now wants to return to England and join United before the transfer window closes in less than a month's time.

The England ace was the first player in Europe's top five leagues last season to register double figures for both goals and assists and finished the Bundesliga campaign with 33 goals in 32 appearances (17 goals, 16 assists).
