Roma will not make Wojciech Szczesny’s loan switch permanent after refusing to match Arsenal’s ‘unrealistic’ valuation.
The Giallorossi were keen to have Szczesny return to the Stadio Olimpico when his loan deal expires at the end of the season but Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has already revealed they are looking at other goalkeepers for next season.
Roma have the option to activate the buy-out clause in the Poland international’s contract, but Sabatini insists the club have no interest in matching the excessive fee and are now looking at Internacional and Brazil international Alisson.
“I’ve yet to speak with Arsenal, but the figure on his buyout clause is not realistic,” Sabatini told the London Evening Standard.
“We will discuss the renewal of the loan, not the purchase. We will push for Alisson – but it won’t easy. He is the No.1 for the Brazilian national team.”
Of goalkeepers to have featured in more than 10 matches in Serie A this season, only four goalkeepers have a better save success rate than Szczesny (73.9%). Meanwhile, in the Brasileirao last season, only one goalkeeper kept more clean sheets than Alisson (14).
