Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian has dismissed suggestions he could return to Italy this month after only six months at the club.
Darmian, 26, signed a four-year deal when he joined from Torino over the summer and after making a bright start to life at Old Trafford he has struggled for form and fitness in recent months.
The Italy international has subsequently been linked with a return to Serie A but Darmian has brushed off those claims and insists he is working hard to return to his early season performances.
“I am happy here with the team, the staff and the city. I am happy here so I just try to ignore the rumours. I want to continue on my way and that’s it,” Darmian told the Manchester Evening News.
“I think the manager is happy with my progress and when I train I try to improve day by day. And when the manager gives me a chance I try to do my best and to help the team.”
“I had a hamstring injury earlier and to return after that is not easy. Sometimes it affects you mentally. It is not easy. But now I feel good. I want to play like I did at the beginning of the season and that is what I’m trying to do.”
Since the start of the season, no United player has picked up more bookings in the Premier League than Darmian (5).
