Tottenham announce Lloris contract extension

Tottenham have confirmed that club captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

The France number one's contract was due to expire at the end of the season, and he had been free to negotiate pre-contracts with overseas clubs, but Antonio Conte had requested Spurs keep Lloris and he has today extended his stay in north London.

"We are delighted to announce that Hugo Lloris has signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract with the Club, which will run until 2024," a statement read on Spurs' official website.

"Captain of Club and country, World Cup and UEFA Nations League winner with France, Hugo, 35, has racked up 395 appearances since his arrival from Lyon in August, 2012.

"Hugo is also the first goalkeeper to keep 100 clean sheets for us in the Premier League, now up to 112, one of only 16 goalkeepers to reach a century in the history of the competition."

The news is a huge boost for Spurs, who are firmly back in the hunt for a top four finish following Wednesday's 3-2 win over Leicester.

Spurs travel to Chelsea on Sunday as they seek to close the gap on their London rivals.
