Cavani opens up about Premier League interest

Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani has branded the Premier League the ‘most important league in the world’ and revealed being linked with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea has ‘grabbed his attention’.

Cavani, 29, has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent yeas but speculation has intensified this season after dropping down the pecking below Lucas Moura in the pecking order at PSG.

The Uruguay international has admitted he is aware of interest from across the Channel, but insists that is as far as it goes, with the striker keen to see out the remaining two years of his current deal at the Parc des Princes.

“Do I want to play in the Premier League? Honestly, I would be ironic if I said no. It is normal to think about it, it is the most wonderful league, the most important league in the world,” Cavani told Fox Sports, via Get French Football.

“For any player who has dreamt about the highest level, to be named as a target for these clubs, that grabs your attention. But that stops there. The reality is, today, I am a PSG player.”

“I have always said it, I have always respected the shirt of the clubs that I play for as if I was a fan. The reality is that I am here, at PSG that is my situation, I have a contract, I have to respect it. We will see in the future, you never know. But it is true that the Premier League is very attractive.”

Cavani has been forced to accommodate to Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the majority of his PSG career, which is represented by the fact that only Alexandre Lacazette (56) and Ibrahimovic (72) have scored more goals in Ligue 1 than Cavani (48) since August 2013.
