Chelsea confident of Sandro deal despite Pairs Saint-Germain interest

Chelsea are still confident they will sign Juventus left-back Alex Sandro in a club-record deal despite interest from French giants Paris Saint-Germain, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Antonio Conte has earmarked Sandro as a top transfer target this summer and Chelsea are even prepared to make the Brazil international the most expensive defender of all-time to land him.

Juventus, who have already rejected a £55.2m bid from Chelsea, are holding out for £60m for the 26-year-old, which would shatter the previous record for a defender set by PSG when they signed David Luiz from the Premier League champions for £50m in 2014.

The Serie A champions’ bargaining hand has only been strengthened by the fact PSG are also interested in signing Sandro, while Manchester City are reportedly also monitoring his situation at the club.

Chelsea only signed Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina last summer to occupy the same left wing-back role, and while Sandro would be an upgrade on the Spaniard, it’s arguably money that could be spent strengthening another area of the team that needs more urgent attention.

Sandro has spent the last two years at Juventus after joining from Porto in a deal worth more than £20m and he has established himself as one of the best full-backs in Europe in that time.

In fact, he finished the 2016/17 campaign as Juventus’ highest rated player in Serie A (7.63) after playing a direct hand in seven goals in 27 appearances (three goals, four assists).
