Tottenham star wants new £100,000-a-week deal

Tottenham plan to open contract walks with Mousa Dembele but the Belgian midfielder will demand £100,000-a-week, claims The Sun.

Dembele’s existing deal is due to expire at the end of next season but Mauricio Pochettino’s side want to secure his best remaining years.

The Belgium international has developed into one of the best midfielders in the Premier League under Pochettino and wants a new salary that reflects his importance.

Dembele will turn 31 a month before the start of next season and has struggled with constant ankle problems in the last few years.

Tottenham operate under one of the strictest salary caps in the Premier League and it remains to be seen whether Dani Levy will sanction such big wages under those circumstances.

Of the 142 Premier League players that have attempted at least 50 dribbles since the start of last season, only Mario Lemina (90.7%) and Jan Vertonghen (89.1%) have a better success rate than Dembele (84%).
