Tottenham rekindle interest in Roma starlet Zaniolo

Tottenham are monitoring Nicolo Zaniolo's future at Roma following his return from injury, reports The Guardian.

Zaniolo is regarded as one of Serie A's most promising talents and was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham prior tearing his cruciate ligament in January.

The 21-year-old has recovered quicker than expected and has made a successful transition back into the Roma team since the restart.

Paulo Fonseca has eased Zaniolo back with five substitute appearances since Serie A resumed and the former Inter youngster is starting to make an impact again.

Zaniolo has scored in two of his last three outings from the bench and misplaced just one of 27 attempted passes across his five appearances post-lockdown.

Tottenham have rekindled their interest in the Italy international as a result and are monitoring his future at Roma amid reports of a rift with head coach Fonseca.

Roma would be reluctant to lose someone of Zaniolo's potential and are reportedly planning to offer the versatile midfielder a bumper new deal to ward off interest from rival clubs.

Zaniolo made history in the Champions League in February 2019 when he became the youngest Italian to net a brace in the competition at the age of 19 (vs Porto).
