Valencia confirm appointment of former Villarreal manager

Valencia have announced former Villarreal boss Marcelino will be their new full-time manager next season on a two-year deal.

Voro has been in temporary charge of Valencia ever since Cesare Prandelli quit in December and has done a decent job in steering Los Che clear of the bottom three.

The 53-year-old, who has been caretaker manager of Valencia before, is the second longest serving head coach of the Peter Lim regime but will step down at the end of the season.

Marcelino has been out of work since being sacked as Villarreal manager just a week before the club were due to play the first-leg of their Champions League qualifier against Monaco in August.

In three years as Villarreal head coach, Marcelino won just less than half of his matches (49.4%) and led the club to the Europa League semi-finals last season.

He will now be tasked with stablising the club and getting them higher in the table. Valencia are currently 13th in the league and need just two more points from their final two matches to surpass their points haul from last season (44).
