Birmingham City have announced Harry Redknapp as their new manager less than 24 hours after Gianfranco Zola resigned.
Zola was only in charge of the Championship outfit for five months but has left the Blues only three points above the bottom three after taking the decision to walk away following their 2-0 home defeat against Burton.
Birmingham have moved quickly to appoint Zola’s successor and have put their Championship status in the hands of former Tottenham manager Redknapp, who returns to club management in England for the first time since 2015.
The 70-year-old resigned as Queens Park Rangers manager in February 2015 after citing the need for a knee operation as the reason behind his decision, but the Super Hoops were second from bottom in the Premier League at that time.
Redknapp, who had a stint as Jordan manager in 2016, will now be tasked with steering Birmingham clear of the drop zone with three games remaining, starting with the Second City Derby on Saturday against Aston Villa
