Barcelona have made Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera their top target for the summer, reports Spanish publication Sport, via the Metro.
The Spain international was one of the stars of the season for United, who secured Europa League glory on Wednesday night with a 2-0 win over Dutch heavyweights Ajax.
His form has not gone under the radar either, with Barcelona now rumoured to be lining up a move for Herrera.
Incoming head coach Ernesto Valverde has identified the 27-year-old as a must-have signing once the transfer window opens.
PSG star Marco Verratti has also been linked with a move to Camp Nou, but with the Italian contracted to the Parisian giants until 2021, Barcelona have earmarked Herrera as a cheaper alternative.
Sport, though, also report that, in light of Barcelona’s rumoured interest, United head coach Jose Mourinho has made extending Herrera’s contract at Old Trafford a priority.
Herrera enjoyed a fine season for United, with the midfielder making 3 interceptions per 90 in the Premier League, the joint second best return of players to make 20 or more appearances this term.
