Tottenham midfielder twists knee

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has been ruled out for a few weeks after twisting his knee in training.

Alli, 20, was not included in the Tottenham squad that drew 1-1 with Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday before Mauricio Pochettino confirmed the England international had picked up a knee injury in training.

Gareth Southgate was forced to leave the talented midfielder out of his England squad for upcoming games against Scotland and Spain and Alli is also expected to miss Tottenham’s next few matches against West Ham and Monaco.

“Bad luck yesterday [on Saturday] in the training session, he twisted his knee when he clashed with a team-mate,” The Daily Mail quote Pochettino as saying after the game at the weekend. “We need to assess him today and tomorrow.

“He’ll be out for a few weeks. We hope it’s not a big issue. It’s bad luck he was in the team he’s an important player but that’s football.”

Alli’s form had taken a dip in the week’s building up to his injury and the break may actually serve the former MK Dons better for his return.

Nevertheless, of players aged 21 and under to have featured in Europe’s big five leagues since the start of last season only Ousmane Dembele (23) has played a part in more goals than Alli (22).
