Hazard's Chelsea future hinges on one thing

Eden Hazard will leave Chelsea at the end of the campaign if they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League, claims The Sun.

The Belgium international has entered the final two years of his current Chelsea deal and is in no rush to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid were heavily linked with a move for Hazard in the summer but baulked at Chelsea's £200m asking price and never came close to signing the Belgian.

Chelsea missed out on a top four finish last season but Hazard will not stand for two straight years without Champions League football.

Hazard is even prepared to make Chelsea sweat and run down his contract to the last 12 months before making a decision on his future.

Failure to qualify for Europe's elite competition could prove even more costly for Chelsea, as they would not be able to command anywhere near the £200m they told Madrid to cough up.

Hazard finished the 2018 World Cup as the highest WhoScored rated player (8.51) and has been immense for Chelsea this season despite being eased back into the swing of things by Maurizio Sarri.

The Chelsea No.10 has featured in all four of Chelsea's Premier League matches but has only started two of those. Despite only featuring in 62% of Chelsea's available minutes on the league this term, Hazard has still scored or assisted four goals (two goals, two assists).

Furthermore, only Sadio Mane (8.00) and Sergio Aguero (7.91) have higher WhoScored ratings than Hazard (7.84) in the Premier League this season.
